About this program

Program name: Chinuch App School Notifications.

Chinuch App is an educational platform used by Jewish day schools (“Schools”) to communicate with parents, guardians, teachers, and students. As part of that platform, schools may send text (SMS) messages to phone numbers that parents, guardians, teachers, students, and school staff have provided to the school and for which the recipient has expressly opted in to receive messages.

This program is operated by Chinuch App LLC (DBA Chabad Chinuch) on behalf of participating schools. Chinuch App acts as the messaging service provider; the school is the “sender” of the school’s messages.

2.

What messages will I receive?

All messages relate to the educational relationship between the recipient and the school. They fall into a small number of categories:

  • Attendance alerts — e.g., “Sample Academy: Your child Ari was marked absent for today’s 9:15 AM Math class. Reply STOP to opt out.”
  • Dismissal & transportation updates — e.g., bus arrival/departure changes, early dismissal, pickup reminders.
  • School-to-parent direct messages — replies from a teacher or office to messages the parent has initiated, or urgent school announcements.
  • Homework hotline notifications — when a student submits a homework voice note, the assigned teacher receives a short text linking back to the platform to listen and respond.
  • Account & verification messages — one-time codes used to confirm a phone number on file.

We do not send marketing, promotional, advertising, lending, or third-party messages of any kind through this program.

3.

Message frequency

Message frequency varies by school and by the recipient’s role and notification settings. Typical volume is fewer than 10 messages per recipient per week during the school year, and substantially fewer outside the school year.

Schools may send time-sensitive messages (e.g., emergency closures, urgent dismissal changes) at any time. Recipients can adjust which categories of messages they receive at any time from parent notification settings or by replying STOP to opt out of all messages from a school.

4.

Message and data rates

Msg & Data Rates May Apply. Standard message and data rates from your wireless carrier may apply to each message sent or received. Chinuch App and the school do not charge for SMS messages, but your wireless carrier’s plan does apply.

Supported carriers include AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, Boost Mobile, U.S. Cellular, MetroPCS, and most other major U.S. carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

5.

How to opt in

Opt-in to SMS messages is collected through one of the following documented Calls to Action:

  • At account signup or invitation acceptance: the user is presented with a clearly labeled, unchecked checkbox that reads:
“Yes, send me text-message notifications from my school (attendance, dismissal, and direct messages from school staff) at the phone number above. Message frequency varies. Msg & Data Rates May Apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out. See SMS Policy and Privacy Policy.”
  • From in-product settings: a parent (or any user with a phone number on file) can turn on SMS at any time from parent notification settings. The same disclosure language is shown next to the toggle.
  • By texting back into the program from a phone number that has not yet opted in: the recipient can reply START or YES to confirm opt-in.

We record the date, source, and (where available) IP address and user-agent of each opt-in for audit purposes.

6.

How to opt out

You can stop receiving SMS messages from a school at any time by:

  • Replying STOP (or STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, REVOKE, or OPTOUT) to any message you receive. You will receive a single confirmation message and no further SMS from that school’s sender number.
  • Turning off “SMS Text Messages” in parent notification settings.
  • Contacting your school’s office and asking them to remove your number from the school’s SMS roster.

To resume receiving messages after opting out, reply START to the same number, or re-enable SMS in parent notification settings.

Privacy of your phone number and opt-in

Phone numbers and SMS opt-in information are collected solely to deliver the messages described above.

We do not sell, rent, share, or otherwise disclose phone numbers or SMS opt-in information to third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers and SMS opt-in information are not shared with third parties or affiliates for any purpose unrelated to operating this messaging program.

We share phone numbers only with our messaging service provider (Twilio Inc.), which delivers the messages on our behalf and is contractually bound to use the data only for that purpose. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

9.

Security

Chinuch App stores phone numbers and SMS preferences in an access-controlled database with row-level security, encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, and audit logging. School staff can only see contact information for users at their own school.

10.

Changes to this policy

We may update this SMS Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by an in-app or email notice.
